Situated beside the Limfjord in the Jutland peninsula, Ny Kærvang offers housing for people with general psychiatric disorders. Lightscapes made a colour–dynamic lighting design, that supports the body’s circadian rhythm while creating a comfortable and safe lighting environment that is as homely as possible.
Lightscapes always apply lighting creatively. The variation in size, asymmetrical locations and the carefully controlled dynamic light, help create an unconventional and reassuringly non-institutional environment.
As good quality sleep is fundamental to recovery for psychiatric patients, a colour-dynamic lighting design has been implemented to support the body’s natural sleep and waking cycle – the circadian rhythm.
The dynamic lighting (tuneable white) follows an almanac and is adjusted from 2700 to 6500 Kelvin. This accommodates a spectrum from the atmospheric warm light (evening light) to the bright white light, which is close to daylight. Colour reproduction has a CRI of 90, ensuring optimum colour rendering with LED light sources. All of this facilitates biodynamic lighting that supports the body’s circadian rhythm.
