Bringing new light to Jais Nielsen’s decorative frescos at the Saint Elisabeth Sisters Hospital.
Jais Nielsen’s frescos at Saint Elisabeth Sisters Hospital are newly and comprehensively restored thanks to the New Carlsberg Foundation’s sponsorship of concurrent research and conservation projects.
The aim of the lighting design project was to bring the artwork to the forefront by implementing a simple, glare-free lighting system. Lightscapes proposed a new, suspended ceiling, which not only simplifies many of functions; lighting, motion sensors, alarm systems, emergency lighting and the associated cabling, but also incorporates acoustic panelling.
Instead of the frescos being viewed as decoration to a staircase, the lighting, acoustics and simplified ceiling allow the frescos to be experienced as an artwork that the viewer can walk through.
